Cybersex den raided in Butuan City, six children rescued
BUTUAN CITY – Unified efforts make government authorities succeed in rescuing six children in a reported cybersex den at Purok 6 Silad, Barangay Mahogany, in this region’s frontier and capital city of Butuan, social welfare regional information officer Eunice Montaos Plaza said Monday.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD 13) regional spokesperson also said the children with ages ranging from 3 to 14 years old (three girls and three boys) and whose identities are withheld, have been placed under the care of social workers now here.
“They (children) are still being debriefed and under care by our social workers at DSWD Home for Girls Facility at Barangay Bonbon here, based on directive of DSWD 13 regional director Mita Chuchi G. Lim,” she said.
DSWD 13 social workers also provided psychosocial processing to the minors and their other needs, she said.
She added that their agency will be assisting in filing a case against the suspect.
The children were rescued when officers from Camp Crame with the Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Office and the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) carried out the raid in a suspected cybersex den at Barangay Mahogany here on Thursday.
Officers from Camp Crame’s PNP investigation and detective management, women and children protection and BCPO arrested the suspect (name temporarily withheld for the arrest of her other companions) for further tactical investigation.
Police authorities here said the suspect and his other companions will be facing charges for violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, Child Abuse Law, and the Anti-Child Pornography Act.
The raid to the suspected cybersex den was planned with the help of the DSWD 13, the regional interagency committee on anti-trafficking and International Justice Mission.
The raid was also a result of information from the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom, it was learned.
In 2015, a British man was caught by authorities at a UK airport where nude photos and videos of children were found on his laptop. UK authorities dug deeper and found out that the photos and videos were taken in the Philippines, prompting them to inform their Philippine counterparts, it was also gathered.
